First Dental Appointment FAQ's

What should I bring to the dental office in Norwood?

When you book your first visit to our dental office in Norwood Village, our team will send you Patient Registration Forms. Please complete and bring a Registration Form for each family member with an appointment.

Also, bring along a list of any medications and doses you take.

If you have dental insurance, please bring your card and breakdown booklet (if you have it).

Finally, please bring your preferred method of payment.

When should toddlers have their first dental visit?

Your child’s first dentist appointment should be 6-2 months after the first teeth erupt, or approximately 18-24 months in age. Your child’s first dental appointment is a brief exam to ensure normal oral development. It also helps your little one become familiar with the sights, sounds and smells of a dental office.

What about first dental visits for kids aged 2-9?

For the first dental exam for children aged 2-9, they will have their first oral exam and x-rays taken. We will let mom and dad know if there are any areas of concern.

We will also perform your child’s first dental cleaning during this visit. The total appointment will eb approximately 40 minutes long.

What about first dental appointments for kids aged 10 and up?

For children aged 10 and over, the complete exam and dental cleaning are performed in two separate visits. This allows for thorough exam and documentation of all dentition in the first visit, to set up a baseline of their oral health to date. On the second visit, they will have a thorough dental cleaning.

What happens during first visits for adults?

Our warm and welcoming team of dental hygienists and family dentists in Norwood will perform a complete dental exam including x-rays, oral photos, periodontal (gum) measurements, oral cancer screening and medical history. The initial exam is completed in one hour.

At the end of the exam, the dentist will prescribe a dental cleaning schedule for you, based on your gum health.

Healthy gums only require a dental cleaning every 6 months.

Gum disease requires some initial therapy, followed by dental cleaning every 3 or 4 months.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

There are over 65,000 dental insurance plans and we accept almost all of them.

Most plans allow for direct billing, in which case, you will only pay your co-pay portion on the day of your care.

Do you offer dental treatment financing?

At Norwood Village Dental, we use the fees set out by the Ontario Dental Association’s Suggested Fee Guide. For most dental procedures we offer, we charge at or below the current year’s suggested fees. We also offer convenient payment plans and 0% dental treatment financing. To help you get the dental care you need, when you need it, we offer a 3 month payment plan, secured with a credit card for many treatments. These are 0% interest payment plans. We have also partnered with a leading provider of dental cost financing. More extensive treatment can be financed over a 12 month payment period, at 0% interest. Ask us about details when you visit.
